Ivan Cheparinov, born November 26, 1986 in Bulgaria, is a chess player who, at the young age of five, learned to play from his father and during his youth, progressed rapidly, leading to numerous achievements, including: Four-time Bulgarian Champion (2004, 2005, 2012 and 2018). In his youth, he won the Bulgarian Youth Championship in 2000. Later, in 2007, he won the European Championship and the Sigeman & Co. Tournament. In 2012 he placed first in the Politiken Cup, in 2013 he was second best player in his country and number 38 in the world but, in addition to many other achievements, he was an assistant to Veselin Topalov, who was World Champion in 2005. But not all are big milestones, but there are also controversies like the one that happened in 2008 for refusing to shake hands with Nigel Short before the game at the Tata Steel tournament, held in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee. It is believed that the cause of that action was due to Short criticizing Topalov in previous years.

The first medal was gold in the Chinese team in the 41 Chess Olympiads and the second, also gold, was in these same Olympiads as the best third board.
