The Llobregat Open Chess Tournament, the best chess tournament in Spain

The Spanish Chess Federation and the Higher Sports Council, have published the ranking of the best open chess tournaments, played in Spain during the year 2022. The Llobregat Open Chess Tournament, with 3031 points, is the first in the classification and only one that exceeds three thousand points. The last edition of the tournament managed to bring together 225 participants from 44 countries at the Can Massallera cultural center in Sant Boi.

By categories, the tournament added 49 Grandmasters (GM), 11 Female Grandmasters (WGM), 41 International Masters (IM), 2 Female International Masters (WIM), 44 FIDE Masters (FM), 3 FIDE Masters (WFM) and 9 candidates for Masters (CM).

A new edition of the tournament

In 2023, ElLlobregat Open Chess Tournament will celebrate its fourth edition on the same dates, which are already tradition: from November 30 to December 8. The open will repeat its venue: Can Massallera cultural center in Sant Boi de Llobregat. The 3rd edition of the open also served to award 9 norms: 2 Grandmaster (GM) and 7 International Master (IM).
